THE SMART TOUR PROJECT

CB Area of Greece and Albania is an area rich of tourism assets originated from culture, history, natural beauty, monuments, tangible and intangible heritage, food and unexploited social authenticity.

The new approach therewith is the basis for a “holistic travel experience”. The goal is that tourists to understand a travel destination’s culture, people and history more deeply by connecting with it more than just by visiting it.

SMART TOUR project, at the time when tourism demand is becoming increasingly “memorable”, has created a unique platform acting as a driving factor in the experiential tourism offering and in the immersion of tourists to local heritage.

with focus on UNESCO Heritage site and candidates (Gjirokastra, Berat, Ancient Nicopolis, Pindos Mountain Park) applying the concept of experiential tourism to intangible and tangible heritage

Antiquities Routes Enhanced Travel Experience.

with focus on antiquities (Ancient Theatres, Ancient Cities, etc) revitalising rituals like theatrical acts, myths/mythology, legends etc.

Museums in the Era of Experience.

focusing on indoor application of VR/AR educational experiences in Ioannina Museum of Typography and revitalization of Life Rituals in Albanian Museums

The expected results

R1. The development of a coherent & comprehensive CB strategy for the experiential tourism offering, branding and marketing.

R2. Increased innovation capacity for the CB region and beyond as per Digital Cultural Content Management.

R3. Increased visibility and promotion of the selected CB area to the Global Immersive Tourism Market.

R4. Increased Visibility of local traditions, gastronomy, artisan products, services and enterprises, including tourism and creative industries.

R5. Fifteen new Experiential Tourism Products will be created within the project. 

R6. Visitors increase in the cross-border area. 

R7. Cross border economy strengthened via new product offering and Holistic Marketing through SMART PORTAL.

R8. Cloud Infrastructure, Tools, Equipment and Systems necessary for further development of the Experiential Tourism in the CB area are established.
